They already said it will use ranged attack as base check, but also additional ones so that it will be more or less on the same level of your melee accuracy (why not just making it use melee accuracy check then, duh?)

probably to encourage capping throwing skill
This update (actually, the September update) was also supposed to include Dual Wield changes so we don't lose TP if we exceed the delay cap. They've also mentioned adjusting the skills ranks of different jobs (specifically mentioned Dancer).
However, this group comfortably killed 5 NMs on 127:
A few things to note:Code:Dmg: Koga 1022667(33.7%), Tsuru 622677(20.5%), Nagi 529753(17.5%), Skillchain(Koga) 308346(10.2%) THF 195665(6.5%), Skillchain(Tsuru) 152985(5.0%), BLM 116321(3.8%), Skillchain(Nagi) 53692(1.8%) Acc: Nagi 91.19% (1679s), Koga 77.30% (987s), THF 67.67% (897s), Tsuru 63.50% (822s) Combined : Koga (43.9%), Tsuru (25.5%), Nagi (19.3%)
* The Koga was likely a little quicker in some way because there shouldn't be such a large gap between Koga Acc and Tsuru Acc or Skillchain damage.
* The Koga was picking targets.
* You can see that the NIN blinked essentially every weapon strip from his melee Acc.
* We had a Yagrush WHM, so status removal was even. We were using Indi-Haste + Haste (and sometimes Victory/Advancing March), so Hasting might have been uneven based on melee whiny-ness but Indi-Haste was consistent.
* The Nagi died once (and then Mijin'd and started fighting again almost immediately) and no one else died.
* THF and BLM were in the outside party. THF's primary priority was staying alive, and the BLM was doing crowd control and tossing Stuns when possible (only Haste 1, so a ~13 sec Stun recast).
While fighting monsters whose most crippling TP moves are blinkable and successfully blinking them, the Mythic NIN came in at less than half the damage of Mythic SAM. The Tsuru and Nagi combined barely do more damage than one Koga in this case. Tsuru, regardless his low Acc, still does almost 1/3 more damage than the Nagi.
So yeah, point is that a little extra DPS from throw-kicks, some more TP/hit in strange situations, and another few Acc/Attack from skill is hardly going to make jobs like NIN and DNC competitive with top DDs.
Updated avatar fights...ifrits blade+1, shiva's shotel +1. I hope they have weather/day related latents so they'll be extra useless like Marjami Delve GS. I bet they'll be proc'able with opposite element. May be more to it than just an Avatar, like spawning 10-12 hard unsleepable elementals or something. inb4 everyone sub RUN. Or 5 RUN, 1 WHM burns.
How can people be excited? The game has been draggin ass for the past 6 months with no real solid content.
ilvl all the things. inb4 ilvl Nation BCNMs, Promathia fight, Alexander fight etc...
Yea.... I did unsub my mules, nothing much to do in the game
I've enjoyed the past several updates quite a bit, but I'm more leisurely about how I play nowadays, so small-group content like more 6 man BCs or Skirmish are great for me. The dripfeeding of story content is the only thing that gets me down but with that I kinda understand why it is the way it is.
I especially like that they patch more often so it's not like the past where we might have to deal with some glitch for like 3-6 months or something because it wasn't serious enough to crash the servers. I'm not sure what era you're comparing the current pace to because getting a new battlefield or something basically monthly is pretty nice when you consider the pace patches used to come out at.
Content regurgitation is just one of those things that leaves me hard to feel excited for the game. I hate it in XIV, since the quote is the main reference, with the avatars and HM dungeons. XI may get some more slack because of skeleton crew shit, but it's still annoying to think you're done with something (you didn't like much to begin with) just for them to 2.0 it and probably make one feel blah all over again. Then again, there is that annoying subset of MMOers that think any and all content needs to matter FOREVER, often linking it to horizontal progression in the process.
Representing the .06% of people who think rehashed avatar fights could be really cool 'o'
I think I bump the % to 0.07!
Avatar fights, specifically the 20 ones I guess, we're always my top favorite early FF memory, soloing them all as SMN... I mean back then a lot of the crystals were in places that seemed dangerous and mysterious... I loved doing those fights, because i recognized all the avatars too from past FF... Ifrit was always my favorite.
That said, I also really enjoyed Duoing them with my brother (him RDM, me SMN), so I mean, I like this idea... it may be rehash but IDGAF for this one instance...
I think they'll be pretty fun if only for a short while. Also hope they have decent drops. Pretty sure astral flow on anything Normal and above will destroy anyone without proper damage mitigation. So I think a lot of people will use RUN for this like others mentioned. That or RNG and aegis PLD I guess. But the most important part about item lvl Avatar fights is HP's right outside the protocrystal rooms!
i might be mistaken, but astral flow has a range of 30 or more? not sure if RNGs and support can outrun that, while the aegis pld will survive np prolly, it depends how much damage it deals and if scherzo is enough to block the majority of it, would need to deal like 5k dmg in normal state to need somethign addtional then scherzo. but it prolly will boil down to a rng + brd scherzo fight anyway, tough pt valliance rotation might be solid for this.
Screw that I hope they bring back procs based on having the associated avatar out!!!. God shotel did some mean enblizzard and 75 on those rare occasions you had shiva out.
Also am I the only hoping these are more walking the beast style with elementals out as well building up to super fight with several carbuncle prime fight!?!
I kinda wanna try Waking the Beast now, see if I can solo Carby Prime. I could solo the avatars easily back when I was just 99, so I imagine 20 levels might make up the difference.
Still can't eat 5 searing lights at once though.
